What is Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual. We use plasma in our treatments to help you to achieve life changing results for your hair and skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Blood, in addition to red and white blood cells contains platelets, rich in growth factors and are the most potent healers of the body. Growth factors promote healing by restoring strength of the tissue.
Once blood is collected via a tube, it is processed at high speeds, resulting in a separation of the red blood cells from the plasma. This plasma has higher concentrations of platelets with growth and healing factors, which are then used to promote healing, increase local blood flow, and stimulate hair follicles to grow healthier.
The PRP is used on your scalp and reinjected using micro needling methods into your affected areas on your scalp. It stimulates the dormant hair follicles, increases local blood flow to that area. Platelets have growth factors, and these growth factors help to stimulate collagen, and generate new collagen to grow. Plasma also has vitamins, nutrients and protein in addition to platelets, which supports the hair follicle and reducing hair fall out.
If you can, it is best if you can avoid anti-inflammatory medications for three days prior and three days after the procedure. This includes prescription anti-inflammatory medications as well as over the counter paracetamol (cardiac clients should continue taking aspirin). Clients on blood thinners (Coumadin/warfarin/Plavix/Pradaxa) are not candidates for PRP injections. Right after the PRP procedure, the client is fine to continue normal everyday life.
There are very few risks with the procedure, and all rarely occur. These can include temporary bruising in the area where the blood was drawn or the PRP was injected, and a temporary worsening of hair loss. After the procedure, any usually mild discomfort or headache can be effectively treated with a simple analgesic like Paracetamol.
From experience, clients with Androgenetic Alopecia achieve visible results usually within the first 3-4 months. The process of follicular miniaturisation occurs over the course of many years; thus rejuvenation of the follicles is not a quick process. Furthermore, existing catagen and telogen hairs (hair in the rest phase) will need to shed first before new healthier anagen hairs (hair in growth phase) grow.
How quickly you attain results will depend on a few factors such as age, severity, genetic predisposition to hair loss, treatment dosage, scalp condition and other external factors. Generally, the earlier treatment is begun, the faster and more effective the results are. New hair growth is seen in almost all cases of pattern hair loss, but the extent of satisfaction will also depend on the individual. There are some individuals who respond well – and then there are those who don’t respond as well and may need additional treatment. We recommend that you come in for a consultation at our clinics to assess your scalp and hair condition and discuss your chances of hair regrowth.
With the PRP injections, pain towards the area of the crown is minimal and next to nothing, however, our patients experience slight discomfort when approaching the front of the head towards the forehead. There is no downtime after our PRP scalp treatment.
